Young Queen Elizabeth

Queen Elizabeth I was born September 7, 1533 whose mother was beheaded for adultery and incest by Henry the VIII who was her husband Elizabeth's father. She had a brother from her mother who was still born but her step mother Jane Seymour who gave birth to a boy who was named Edward, she died shortly after giving birth to the next in line for the throne. Then had another step mother who ruled the throne after Elizabeth's father died had a child by the brother-in-law of Henry VII. She gave birth to Mary then also died shorty after. Elizabeth being next in line for the throne was asked of her hand by Edward, her step brother, and her step mothers lover, the brother-in-law of her father. She refused both. Edward died of tuberculosis. Mary was declared the offspring of Henry VIII because not many knew the true father of that child, and so she became queen. Mary imprisoned Elizabeth for fear of her taking over the thrown. Mary had married and was Queen of England many years. When she thought she was pregnant she no longer saw Elizabeth as a threat so she release to her live in Hatfield under semi-house arrest. When there was no child being born, it was thought to be an cyst in the ovaries and it killed her. Therefore, Elizabeth being next in line for the throne was now Queen of England. When Elizabeth heard the news she was sitting underneath an oak tree ready and when she was told that Mary had died she said "It is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes." (Lara E. Eakins). She was now the first Elizabeth to rule England.

January 15, 1559 Elizabeth was crowned Queen of England by Owen Oglethorpe. This happened within three months after Mary's death. After being crowned, she was immediately questioned about her choice of not wanting to be married. Many of her suitors were confused, some outraged at the fact that she did now want to marry. She was set up many times with different men to try and convince her otherwise; she wanted none of them. For at the time she was in love with Robert Dudley, who was a friend of hers before she was Queen. After finally convincing her suitors that she did not wish to marry, they finally let it go. She did of course want to marry Sir Dudley but he was married to someone else who later died mysteriously. After that a problem had risen between them two and they ceased to communicate.

Queen Elizabeth was attacked several times when she was in rule, her cousin Mary Queen of Scotts who wanted her throne had plotted against her. She sent a bishop and a few men to wait for her signal to attack the Queen. Mary sent a letter to the men and they set out to assassinate her. Two men were at her place of worship, one gave the gun to another and the other guy ran inside and assassinate Elizabeth, but it failed. Mary was then beheaded for trying to kill her cousin Elizabeth. In doing so the king of Spain declared war. Her army had successfully won the long and difficult war.
